Be your own bodyguard

I am new to this blogging stuff so please be patient with me and help me along the way if you are kind enough. The following are some of my view's on this subject title.
First of all I am staying in Puchong and I am very concern about the current crime index in my area. There is an increasing number of crime from petty snatch theft to house break in's to vehicle theft, armed robberies and murders happening every minute of the day. This is the beginning and its bound to get worse before it is going to get better.
So in the mean time what do we do. We cannot take for granted that the Police is going to be able to look after our safety. Judging from the various crime escalating the past years I would look elsewhere for my personal security needs. One option is to be more aware of your surroundings by joining your local residence association, Rukun Tetangga, Rela, Police Volunteer Reserve, Wartania or other NGO organisation to network with the cominities and get better support from your fellow neighbours. Another option is to take up self defense and attend crime prevention seminars held by NGO's, MCPF, Police force, Rukun Tetangga groups. Forming Home Guard is another good option but takes a lot of cooperation from all involved but is most effective in preventing and checking crime in that paticular area. Because most housing area have some sort of security features like gated comunity, private security, home alarm, guard dogs, CCTV survelience and other more sophistigated gadgets it would be rare seeing this Home Guard security being practice anyway.
We have to learn from others mistakes and learn fast because the criminals are always one step ahead of everyone. Malaysian are very slow to wakeup to the facts facing our daily lives and somehow they put security at the bottom of their list. They should make an effort to be more pro active in handling the current crime trend. Crime increases when the ecomony is bad and it becomes worse when it is prolonged.
I wont be surprised 10 or 15 years from now hiring personal bodyguard will become a normal practice and not an option anymore. For those who aspire to be involved in the security field now is a good time to look at this line of business. Too bad there is hardly any institution offering this kind of course in Malaysia but you can find them in the USA, Europe, Australia and even in South Africa. (this courses is not cheap)
The bottom line is the faster we look for ways to arrest this problems the safer we will be.
The common targets for criminals is women folks, old folks, children and businessman.
The formula for a crime to happen includes opportunity, location of crime, intention to commit the said crime, gender and age of the victim, odds in favour of criminal for not being caught in the act of commiting the said crime, even when confronted by enforcement personal they are willing to chellenge them and last but not least poor public response in helping victim's of crime.
Education is the key word to a safer comunity.
